How much optimism can Bullish Peptides justify?

A semaglutide trial counted heart attacks, strokes and cardiovascular deaths. Fewer happened with treatment. I’m bullish about that result, with a very specific claim to defend.

The SELECT result

SELECT enrolled 17,604 adults with established cardiovascular disease, a body-mass index of at least 27. None had diabetes. Its main outcome combined cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack and nonfatal stroke. Semaglutide reduced the risk of that combined outcome by 20% relative to placebo. That finding makes a stronger case for optimism than another account of a smaller clothing size.

SELECT makes a convincing case for my optimism. These people already had cardiovascular disease; preventing a first event in otherwise healthy adults would be a different claim. And a lower combined result does not establish that every component fell separately. The result is substantial enough to deserve its actual boundaries.

Four compounds

The name Bullish Peptides began with a question: where does enthusiasm have something solid underneath it? There are convincing human treatment results here. There are also intriguing experiments whose greatest contribution, so far, is a better question. My confidence drops at the jump from an animal experiment to a human claim.

Conditions on the optimism

A benefit can depend on continuing treatment. In the longer tesamorelin study, visceral fat returned after discontinuation. That makes durability a practical question, even when the initial result is convincing. Safety also changes the calculation: semaglutide’s digestive symptoms and increased biliary-disease risk sit beside its benefits.

I object when optimism spends the same result twice—first as a measured benefit, then as permission to assume everything else improved. The comparison puts the strongest claims beside the questions they leave open. The answers page deals with appetite, muscle and research labels. This is an encouraging body of work with uneven reach; the unevenness is where it gets interesting.
